Volcanic Ash Update

17 May 2010 11:29

Ash from the Icelandic volcano has made a return to the UK, shutting many airports over the weekend and causing continuing disruption to flights today.

Both Heathrow and Gatwick Airports were closed over night but partially reopened this morning although there are some restrictions still in place, with Gatwick closed to arriving flights until at least 1pm today.

Several airports including Belfast, Edinburgh and Bristol, remain closed, with an update expected at 1pm.

If you are scheduled to fly today, please check with your airline for the latest news or visit www.nats.co.uk.

Weather forecasters say a change in wind direction is expected in the next few days meaning the ash cloud will move away from the UK again
